Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Food coloring (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk until just combined.
  5. Fill cupcake liners about 2/3 full with batter and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.
  6. For the buttercream frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and milk, mixing until desired consistency.
  7. Use food coloring to dye the frosting if desired, and pipe flowers onto the cooled cupcakes.
