Description

A nostalgic dish featuring ground beef and zesty sauce on buttery Texas toast, topped with melted cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices Texas toast
  • 4 slices of cheese (American or cheddar)
  • Butter for spreading

Instructions

  1. Cook the ground beef and diced onion in a skillet over medium heat until browned.
  2. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Butter one side of each slice of Texas toast.
  5. Toast the Texas toast, buttered side down, in a separate skillet until golden brown.
  6. Spoon the beef mixture onto the unbuttered side of two slices of Texas toast. Top with a slice of cheese and place another slice of toast on top, buttered side facing out.
  7. Grill the sandwiches until the cheese melts and the bread turns golden brown, flipping once.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Try adding cayenne pepper for some heat. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to three days.
