Description

A cherished comfort food that blends rich flavors and tender textures, Swedish meatballs are perfect for gatherings and evoke warmth and love.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, egg, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add flour to the remaining drippings and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and bring to a simmer.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream and return the meatballs to the skillet.
  6. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until meatballs are cooked through and the gravy thickens.
  7. Serve warm.

Notes

For a lighter version, consider using lean ground beef. Experiment with the seasoning by adding fresh herbs like thyme or parsley.
