Ingredients
- 10 banana peppers (or more as needed, depending on the size)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (15 ml)
- 8 oz beef or steak, finely chopped (225 g)
- 1 tsp garlic powder (5 g)
- 1 tsp paprika (2 g)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 oz shredded gouda cheese (or use your favorite melty cheese) (115 g)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Cut the banana peppers in half lengthwise and remove the seeds. Place them on a large baking tray.
- Warm the olive oil in a medium-sized skillet and add the finely chopped beef. Sprinkle with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for approximately 5 minutes, or until the meat is done to your preference.
- Fill the hollowed peppers with the cooked beef mixture, then sprinkle shredded gouda cheese on top of each one.
- Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Alternatively, grill the peppers for 15 minutes or broil for 6-7 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Take them out of the oven and transfer to serving dishes.
- If you like, garnish with chopped green onions, chili flakes, and a drizzle of hot sauce.
Notes
- Note: For a vegetarian option, replace the beef with crumbled tofu or cooked lentils.
- Second note: Enhance the heat by adding diced jalapenos or red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
- Third note: Get creative by using different cheeses like cheddar, mozzarella, or pepper jack for unique flavors.
