Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) maple syrup
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) cornstarch
Instructions
- In a small saucepan on medium heat, heat the vegetable oil, then add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until it releases its aroma.
- Pour in the maple syrup, water, brown sugar, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, and cornstarch, and stir everything together thoroughly.
- Increase the heat to bring the mixture to a boil, stirring often, then let it simmer for 5 minutes or until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a more intense flavor, opt for dark brown sugar over light brown sugar.
- Add a touch of red pepper flakes or a splash of sriracha for a spicy kick.
- Try using rice vinegar instead of apple cider vinegar for a slightly different tangy taste.
