Description

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) cornstarch

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan on medium heat, heat the vegetable oil, then add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until it releases its aroma.
  2. Pour in the maple syrup, water, brown sugar, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, and cornstarch, and stir everything together thoroughly.
  3. Increase the heat to bring the mixture to a boil, stirring often, then let it simmer for 5 minutes or until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  4. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a more intense flavor, opt for dark brown sugar over light brown sugar.
  • Add a touch of red pepper flakes or a splash of sriracha for a spicy kick.
  • Try using rice vinegar instead of apple cider vinegar for a slightly different tangy taste.
