Description
A mouthwatering cowboy butter steak with a rich blend of butter, garlic, and herbs that enhances the natural flavor of the meat.
Ingredients
- 1 stick of butter, mostly melted
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/2 lemon for zest and 1 tablespoon of juice
- 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne or red pepper flakes
- 1/2 teaspoon of dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon of additional red pepper flakes or cayenne powder
- 1 tablespoon of chives or green onions, sliced
- 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley, minced
- Salt and pepper, adjusted to taste
- Optional: rosemary sprig and smashed garlic for the cast iron preparation
Instructions
- Let the steak reach room temperature and pat it dry.
- Season generously with salt, pepper, and garlic.
- Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat until it’s smoking hot.
- Add a splash of avocado oil to the skillet and place your steak inside.
- Flip the steak once it develops a crust, and add the melted butter, minced garlic, and fresh herbs.
- Spoon the herbed butter over the steak continuously as it cooks.
- Use a meat thermometer to check for 130°F for medium-rare.
- Let the steak rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing against the grain.
- Top with a dollop of cowboy butter and serve.
Notes
For best results, allow the steak to rest after cooking to keep it juicy. Experiment with different herbs in the cowboy butter.
