Description
A beloved classic, Salisbury steaks combine seasoned ground meat and savory gravy for a comforting family dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground meat (beef, turkey, or chicken)
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups beef broth (or chicken broth for a lighter option)
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until integrated.
- Shape the mixture into evenly sized patties.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook until browned on both sides.
- Remove the patties from the skillet.
- For the gravy, add the flour to the pan drippings. Stir well to brown slightly and create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the broth, ensuring no lumps form. Simmer until thickened.
- Return the patties to the skillet, coat with gravy, and simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
Notes
Experiment with different seasonings and consider adding sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions to the gravy for added flavor.
