Description

A comforting dish of ground beef patties served with a rich mushroom gravy, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional for thickening)
  • Mashed potatoes for serving

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all the ingredients are well combined. Form into patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté until tender.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine. Let it simmer briefly.
  5. Return patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for about 10 minutes. For thicker gravy, mix cornstarch with a bit of water and add to the skillet.
  6. Serve the Salisbury steak over mashed potatoes, topped with the mushroom gravy.

Notes

Let patties rest after forming for best flavor and texture. Consider mixing different mushrooms for added depth.
