Description
A comforting dish of ground beef patties served with a rich mushroom gravy, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional for thickening)
- Mashed potatoes for serving
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all the ingredients are well combined. Form into patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté until tender.
- Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine. Let it simmer briefly.
- Return patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for about 10 minutes. For thicker gravy, mix cornstarch with a bit of water and add to the skillet.
- Serve the Salisbury steak over mashed potatoes, topped with the mushroom gravy.
Notes
Let patties rest after forming for best flavor and texture. Consider mixing different mushrooms for added depth.
