Description

Delicious cheesy breadsticks made using sourdough discard for a no-waste solution that enhances flavor and texture.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup sourdough discard
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the yeast mixture by combining warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Allow it to sit for 5 to 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add garlic salt, olive oil, and sourdough discard, then pour in the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually mix in all-purpose flour until a dough forms, then knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Roll out the dough to your desired thickness, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with garlic powder, herbs, salt, and pepper.
  7. Top with shredded mozzarella and grated parmesan cheese, then cut into breadstick shapes and transfer to a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and melted.

Notes

Allow the breadsticks to cool briefly before serving for optimal taste. Serve with marinara or ranch dipping sauces.
