Delicious cheesy breadsticks made using sourdough discard for a no-waste solution that enhances flavor and texture.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 tsp yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup sourdough discard
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp dried parsley
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the yeast mixture by combining warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Allow it to sit for 5 to 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, add garlic salt, olive oil, and sourdough discard, then pour in the yeast mixture.
- Gradually mix in all-purpose flour until a dough forms, then knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the dough to your desired thickness, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with garlic powder, herbs, salt, and pepper.
- Top with shredded mozzarella and grated parmesan cheese, then cut into breadstick shapes and transfer to a baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and melted.
Notes
Allow the breadsticks to cool briefly before serving for optimal taste. Serve with marinara or ranch dipping sauces.
