Description
A cheesy and beefy twist on a classic comfort food, combining the flavors of a Philly cheesesteak in a meatloaf form.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 8 slices provolone cheese (4 for filling, 4 for topping)
- Fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté peppers and onions for 5 minutes until softened. Set aside.
- Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
- Press half the meat mixture into the bottom of a loaf pan.
- Layer 4 slices of provolone over the meat, then add the sautéed peppers and onions.
- Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing to seal the edges.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes. In the last 5 minutes, lay the remaining 4 slices of provolone on top and bake until melted.
- Rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
Consider adding diced jalapeños for a bit of heat, or experimenting with different cheese varieties for the topping.
