Description

Delightful homemade overnight bread and butter pickles with a perfect balance of sweetness and tang, ideal for complementing meals or as a snack.

Ingredients

  • 4 to 6 pickling cucumbers
  • 1 sweet onion
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seed
  • 1/2 tsp celery seed
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Begin by slicing the cucumbers into thin rounds and the onions as thinly as possible. Place them in a large bowl, allowing them to mingle together.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the remaining ingredients, namely white sugar, brown sugar, salt, ground black pepper, mustard seed, celery seed, turmeric, and apple cider vinegar.
  3. Pour this mixture over the cucumber and onion slices. Gently mix to ensure every slice gets coated with the sweet and tangy marinade.
  4. Cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator. Allow the flavors to meld overnight for at least 12 hours.
  5. Once your pickles are ready, store them in air-tight containers, and keep them in the refrigerator. They can last for up to one month.

Notes

Can adjust sweetness and spiciness to personal preference; consider adding dill or garlic for variation.
