Description

Classic old-fashioned pancakes that evoke warm memories of family breakfasts, combining simplicity of ingredients with delightful flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (plus more for cooking)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined (a few lumps are okay).
  4. Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter.
  5. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake.
  6. Cook until bubbles form and edges look set, about 2 minutes.
  7. Flip pancakes and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Stack and serve warm with butter, maple syrup, or toppings of choice.

Notes

Using a measuring cup can help ensure uniform pancake sizes. Experiment with flavors by adding fruits, nuts, or chocolate chips.
