Description

Delicious and fluffy Mexican bread rolls that evoke warm childhood memories and family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about ten minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about ten minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for one hour until doubled.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into small balls. Shape into rolls and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Score the top of each roll with a sharp knife.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

For a shinier crust, brush the rolls with an egg wash before baking.
