Description
Masa harina biscuits blend flaky pastry with the unique flavor of masa harina, creating a delicious treat perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups cold cultured buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup masa harina
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 12 tablespoons cold salted butter, cut into pieces
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F.
- In a small bowl, mix the cold buttermilk and honey together and set aside.
- In a food processor, combine the dry ingredients: flour, masa harina, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Pulse to mix.
- Add the cold butter pieces into the dry mixture.
- Pulse about 25 times or until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Slowly add the buttermilk mixture while pulsing until the dough starts to come together.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Bring it together gently, adding a little more flour if it feels too wet.
- Pat or roll the dough to about one inch thick. Using a 2 1/2 inch round biscuit cutter, cut the biscuits. Flour the edges of the cutter between cuts to prevent sticking.
- Place the biscuits on parchment paper or a Silpat liner. Bake for about 15 minutes.
- Serve hot out of the oven with butter or honey for the best flavor.
Notes
For best results, use cold ingredients and handle the dough gently.
