Ingredients
- Cleaned Ingredients:
- Regular minced (ground) beef: 1 lb 2 oz (500 g)
- Panko breadcrumbs: 30 g (1/2 cup)
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) ketchup
- 1 tsp (5 ml) salt
- 1/2 tsp (3 ml) cracked black pepper
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil
- 1–2 tbsp (30 ml) water (optional)
- 4 brioche rolls, halved and toasted
- 4 slices cheddar cheese or burger cheese slices
- 2 tomatoes, finely sliced
- 1 red onion, finely sliced
- 1 little gem lettuce, leaves picked and washed
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) sliced gherkins (dill pickles)
- 4 teaspoons (20 ml) whole-egg mayonnaise
- 4 teaspoons (20 ml) ketchup
- 4 teaspoons (20 ml) American mustard
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and black pepper thoroughly using your hands.
- Shape the mixture into 4–6 patties, ensuring each is slightly larger than the brioche rolls as they will contract while cooking.
- Press your thumb into the center of each patty to create a small indentation, which helps maintain their form during cooking.
- Warm the olive oil in a sturdy frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Cook the patties for 10–12 minutes, flipping them once at the halfway mark.
- In the last two minutes of cooking, add water to the pan if desired, to loosen and incorporate the flavorful bits stuck to the pan onto the patties.
- For a smoky, grilled taste, consider using a grill pan or barbecue plate. Preheat to medium-high, lightly coat with oil, and grill the patties for 10–12 minutes, flipping midway.
- Assemble the burgers by placing the patties on toasted brioche rolls, adding cheese, slices of tomato and red onion, gherkins, lettuce, and topping with whole-egg mayonnaise, ketchup, and American mustard.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Use whole-egg mayonnaise for a more decadent, velvety flavor in your burger.
- Consider including a slice of bacon for an added depth of savory taste.
- Toasting the brioche rolls creates a delightful crunch that complements the juicy patty perfectly.
