Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (240g)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed (113g)
- 2 cups (480 ml) sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) (about 2 medium apples)
- 1 tsp (5 ml) cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (50g)
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) apple juice caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought)
Instructions
- Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly butter an 8×8-inch baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and chilled butter until the texture resembles coarse crumbs. Firmly press this mixture into the base of the prepared pan.
- Combine the apple slices with the brown sugar and cinnamon, then distribute them evenly over the pressed crust.
- Place in the oven and cook for 25-30 minutes until the apples are soft and the base is a light golden color.
- Pour the warm apple juice caramel sauce over the top of the bars and let them cool completely before cutting into pieces.
Notes
- For a richer caramel flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar.
- Experiment with various apple types to create a unique flavor profile in the bars.
- Enhance the cinnamon taste by sprinkling extra cinnamon on top before baking.
