Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons (7.5 ml) baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon (1.25 ml) salt
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) cinnamon
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup (120 ml) whole milk
  • 2 ¼ cups (540 ml) Granny Smith apples, peeled, chopped
  • 1-2 cups (240-480 ml) vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 cups (240 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 3-4 tablespoons (45-60 ml) whole milk

Instructions

  1. Warm the oil in a large skillet over medium flame.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and cinnamon by whisking them together. Set this bowl aside.
  3. In another bowl, beat together the milk and egg.
  4. Add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until they are fully incorporated.
  5. Fold in the chopped Granny Smith apples.
  6. Spoon the batter by heaped teaspoons into the hot oil, frying until they achieve a golden brown color on both sides.
  7. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fritters from the oil onto a plate lined with paper towels to soak up any extra oil.
  8. Prepare the glaze by blending powdered sugar, whole milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth.
  9. While the fritters are still warm but not hot, dip them in the glaze and place them on a baking sheet or plate lined with parchment paper.

Notes

  • Peel and dice the Granny Smith apples before incorporating them into the batter for even distribution.
  • Adjust the powdered sugar in the glaze to suit your desired level of sweetness.
  • Allow the fritters to cool slightly before dipping them in the glaze to prevent it from melting too quickly.
