- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) cinnamon
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup (120 ml) whole milk
- 2 ¼ cups (540 ml) Granny Smith apples, peeled, chopped
- 1-2 cups (240-480 ml) vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 cups (240 g) powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
- 3-4 tablespoons (45-60 ml) whole milk
Instructions
- Warm the oil in a large skillet over medium flame.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and cinnamon by whisking them together. Set this bowl aside.
- In another bowl, beat together the milk and egg.
- Add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until they are fully incorporated.
- Fold in the chopped Granny Smith apples.
- Spoon the batter by heaped teaspoons into the hot oil, frying until they achieve a golden brown color on both sides.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fritters from the oil onto a plate lined with paper towels to soak up any extra oil.
- Prepare the glaze by blending powdered sugar, whole milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth.
- While the fritters are still warm but not hot, dip them in the glaze and place them on a baking sheet or plate lined with parchment paper.
Notes
- Peel and dice the Granny Smith apples before incorporating them into the batter for even distribution.
- Adjust the powdered sugar in the glaze to suit your desired level of sweetness.
- Allow the fritters to cool slightly before dipping them in the glaze to prevent it from melting too quickly.
