Description

A delightful and fragrant Italian bread that brings warmth and invites gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • Fresh herbs (such as rosemary or thyme)
  • Coarse sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar.
  3. Create a well in the center, add olive oil and the yeast mixture, and stir until cohesive dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for one hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) during the final rising stage.
  7. Punch down the dough, transfer to a greased baking sheet, and create dimples with your fingers.
  8. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with fresh herbs and coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

For deeper flavor, allow the dough to rise slowly in the fridge overnight before baking.
