Description

Discover how to make delicious and nutritious Healthy Baked Apples with our simple recipe. Perfect for a guilt-free dessert or snack option.

Ingredients

  • – 6 medium-large apples (about 1.2 kg)
  • – 1/2 cup (120 ml) old fashioned rolled oats
  • – 1/3 cup (80 g) walnuts
  • – 2 Tablespoons (30 ml) flax seeds
  • – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) cinnamon
  • – pinch fine grain sea salt
  • – 2 Tablespoons (30 ml) pure maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to preheat.
  2. Get the apples ready by washing and removing the cores. A grapefruit spoon can help with this task, but a sharp paring knife will also do the trick. Arrange the apples in a baking dish made of glass or ceramic.
  3. Combine the oats, walnuts, flax seeds, cinnamon, and a pinch of sea salt in a coffee grinder, blender, or food processor. Blend them until they are well mixed and have a crumbly texture, leaving some oats whole if needed.
  4. Move the blended mixture to a small bowl. Add the pure maple syrup and mix thoroughly until everything is well incorporated.
  5. Fill the hollowed-out apples evenly with the oat mixture, then add water to the baking dish until it reaches a quarter-inch up the sides.
  6. Cook the apples in the oven for 45 minutes to an hour, or until they become tender. If the apples are larger, you may need to bake them longer. They are done when a fork can easily pierce them.
  7. Enjoy the apples warm or allow them to cool to room temperature before serving.

Notes

  • For a nut-free option, swap walnuts with sunflower or pumpkin seeds for extra crunch.
  • Experiment with different apple varieties for varying sweetness and tartness levels.
  • Drizzle extra maple syrup over baked apples before serving for added sweetness.
