Description

Delightful fluffy pastries drizzled with a sweet glaze that are perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 3½ cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix the yeast with warm water and sugar in a bowl and let sit until foamy.
  2. Whisk in the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Gradually add the flour to the mixture. Knead until smooth.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about one hour.
  5. Roll the dough to ½ inch thick and cut into squares.
  6. Heat oil to 350°F and fry beignets until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  7. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to create a glaze. Dip warm beignets in the glaze.

Notes

Use fresh yeast for best results and don’t rush the rising process.
