Ingredients
- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm water
- ¼ cup sugar
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 3½ cups flour
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Mix the yeast with warm water and sugar in a bowl and let sit until foamy.
- Whisk in the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.
- Gradually add the flour to the mixture. Knead until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about one hour.
- Roll the dough to ½ inch thick and cut into squares.
- Heat oil to 350°F and fry beignets until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
- Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to create a glaze. Dip warm beignets in the glaze.
Notes
Use fresh yeast for best results and don’t rush the rising process.
