Description

Deliciously fluffy homemade biscuits that evoke childhood memories of warm kitchens and shared meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk or milk
  • 2 tablespoons honey (optional for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the chilled butter with a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk or milk.
  5. Stir gently until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently a few times.
  7. Roll or pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness.
  8. Cut out biscuits using a round cutter or a glass.
  9. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet, close together.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Serve warm with butter and honey.

Notes

For best results, chill your butter before cutting it into the flour. If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by adding vinegar or lemon juice to regular milk.
