Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 3/4 cup buttermilk or milk
- 2 tablespoons honey (optional for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in the chilled butter with a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk or milk.
- Stir gently until just combined.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently a few times.
- Roll or pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness.
- Cut out biscuits using a round cutter or a glass.
- Place the biscuits on a baking sheet, close together.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve warm with butter and honey.
Notes
For best results, chill your butter before cutting it into the flour. If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by adding vinegar or lemon juice to regular milk.
