Description

Indulge in the joy of cookie dough without the worry of raw eggs or uncooked flour. This Edible Cookie Dough is a nostalgic treat that brings family and friends together.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour (must be heat-treated)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips (a mix of mini and regular)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Spread the flour evenly on a baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, stirring halfway through for even cooking. Let it cool completely when done. Alternatively, microwave the flour in a bowl for 60 seconds, stirring every 20 seconds until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Use an electric mixer on medium speed and cream them together for approximately 2-3 minutes until the mixture appears light and fluffy.
  3. Pour in the whole milk and pure vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix on low speed until just combined.
  4. Gradually add the cooled, heat-treated flour and salt. Continue mixing on low speed until the ingredients combine well. The dough should have a classic cookie dough consistency.
  5. Using a wooden spoon or spatula, gently fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  6. You can enjoy this cookie dough straight from the bowl, or refrigerate it in an airtight container for up to a week. Allow it to come to room temperature before scooping for easier handling.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using brown butter or adding a pinch of sea salt. This recipe allows for customization with mix-ins like crushed nuts or toffee bits.
