Description

A perfectly cooked crockpot brisket that’s tender and infused with rich flavors, ideal for family gatherings or casual dinners.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 lbs beef brisket
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Begin by seasoning the brisket. In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Generously rub this mixture over the brisket.
  2. Optional but recommended: Sear the brisket. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket for 2-3 minutes on each side until a golden-brown crust forms. Remove the brisket from the skillet and set it aside.
  3. Prepare the crockpot by placing the sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom.
  4. In a medium bowl, mix beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and brown sugar until well combined.
  5. Place the seared brisket on top of the onions and garlic in the crockpot. Pour the sauce mixture over the brisket, ensuring it is well-coated.
  6. Cook the brisket. For low setting, cover and cook for 8-10 hours or until the brisket is tender enough to pull apart with a fork. For high setting, cook for 4-5 hours.
  7. Once cooked, remove the brisket from the crockpot. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing against the grain for the most tender pieces. Drizzle the slices with sauce from the crockpot.

Notes

For best results, use a brisket with some marbling for juiciness. Vary spices for different flavor profiles.
