Description

A hearty and satisfying club sandwich that combines crispy bacon, fresh turkey, and vibrant vegetables across layers of toasted bread.

Ingredients

  • 3 slices thick-cut white or whole wheat sandwich bread (preferably sturdy sourdough)
  • 4 strips thick-cut bacon, cooked until crispy
  • 4 ounces thinly sliced deli turkey breast or roast chicken
  • 3 ounces thinly sliced ham (optional)
  • 2 slices sharp cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • Crisp Romaine or iceberg lettuce leaves, washed and dried
  • 1 medium ripe tomato, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: pickles or avocado slices

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Lay 4 strips of thick-cut bacon in the pan without overlapping. Cook for 6-8 minutes, flipping occasionally, until crispy and golden. Remove and drain on paper towels. Save a tablespoon of bacon fat for toasting bread if desired.
  2. Toast the bread: Toast 3 slices of bread until golden and crispy using a toaster, toaster oven, or pan-fry with a little butter or reserved bacon fat. This takes about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Prepare the spread: Mix 3 tablespoons mayonnaise with 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard in a small bowl. Set aside.
  4. Slice the tomatoes: Cut the tomato into medium-thick slices (about 1/4 inch). Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper.
  5. Assemble the sandwich: Lay one slice of toasted bread on a work surface. Spread a generous layer of the mayo-mustard mixture. Layer with 2 slices of turkey breast, crisp lettuce leaves, and a couple of tomato slices. Place the second slice of toasted bread on top.
  6. Build the next layer: Spread mayo on the second slice of bread. Add ham slices, crispy bacon strips, and cheese. Top with the last slice of toasted bread. Add pickles or avocado if desired.
  7. Secure and slice: Use sandwich picks or toothpicks to hold layers together. Cut the sandwich diagonally into quarters and serve immediately.

Notes

For the best flavor, consider using reserved bacon fat for toasting bread. Add pickles or avocado slices to enhance the sandwich further.
