Ingredients
- 2 pieces apples (200g)
- 1/2 cup All-purpose flour (60g)
- 1/2 cup Powdered sugar, divided for coating (60g)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) Ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) Ground cloves
- as needed spray Cooking oil, for spraying the air fryer basket
Instructions
- Thoroughly clean and dry your apples. You can remove the peel if you want a softer texture, or keep it on for extra crunch and nutrients.
- Cut the apples into sticks resembling fries, each about half an inch thick. Ensure they are of similar size for even cooking.
- In a shallow dish, combine the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and half of the powdered sugar, mixing them together well.
- Gently coat the apple sticks in the flour mixture, ensuring each piece is covered evenly.
- Set your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) and let it warm up for about three minutes. During this time, apply a light coating of cooking oil spray to the air fryer basket to avoid sticking.
- Place the coated apple sticks in a single layer inside the basket. If your air fryer is small, you might need to cook them in several rounds.
- Give the tops of the apple fries a light spray with cooking oil to help them become more crispy.
- Cook the apple fries in the air fryer for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to make sure they cook evenly on all sides. They should turn golden and crispy.
- Once cooked, immediately roll the hot apple fries in the remaining powdered sugar or serve them with a dip of your choice, such as caramel or vanilla yogurt.
Notes
- Consider using whole wheat or almond flour for added nutrients and fiber in place of all-purpose flour.
- Experiment with ginger or cardamom for unique flavor profiles in your apple fries.
- For a sweeter taste, sprinkle extra powdered sugar on the apple fries after cooking.
