Description

A delightful combination of fresh green beans, crispy bacon, and a hint of sweetness that elevates a simple side dish into a family favorite.

Ingredients

  • pounds fresh green beans, trimmed (or thawed frozen green beans)
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and trim the green beans, then pat dry if using frozen beans.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon and set it aside.
  3. Leave about 1–2 tablespoons of bacon fat in the pan. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30–60 seconds until aromatic.
  4. Toss in the green beans and sauté for 6–8 minutes, allowing them to become bright green and tender-crisp.
  5. Add the unsalted butter, brown sugar, and soy sauce to the skillet, stirring until everything melts into a glaze that coats the beans.
  6. Return the crispy bacon to the skillet, toss everything together, and let it cook for another 2 minutes.
  7. Season with salt, pepper, and stir in optional red pepper flakes for added heat.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using turkey bacon or adding a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds before serving.
