Ingredients

  • – 1/2 cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) coarse Dijon Mustard
  • – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) fresh chives, chopped
  • – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) fresh parsley, chopped
  • – 2 teaspoons (10 ml) fresh thyme
  • – 2 teaspoons (10 ml) garlic, minced
  • – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) lemon juice
  • – 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) paprika
  • – 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) kosher salt
  • – 1/8 teaspoon (1 ml) pepper
  • – 1/8 teaspoon (1 ml) ground black pepper
  • – 1/8 teaspoon (1 ml) crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the softened butter with the Dijon mustard, chives, parsley, thyme, garlic, lemon juice, paprika, salt, both types of pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir the ingredients together until they are well mixed. This will yield approximately ⅔ cup of butter. (Alternatively, you may use a food processor to blend the ingredients.)
  2. To create a flavored butter: Place the cowboy butter mixture onto a sheet of plastic wrap. Shape it into a cylinder by pressing and molding until the butter is fully encased in the wrap. Twist the ends of the wrap tightly and place it in the refrigerator to chill until it becomes firm, which should take 2 hours or leave it overnight.
  3. To prepare a buttery dip: Heat the butter mixture in the microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring each time, until it is completely melted.
  4. Keep it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • Enhance the cowboy butter mixture by adding more garlic and fresh herbs for a bolder flavor.
  • Customize the taste of the cowboy butter by trying out various fresh herbs like rosemary or cilantro.
  • Adjust the level of red pepper flakes in the butter to suit your preferred spice intensity.
