Description

Tender, crispy steak smothered in rich gravy, embodying comfort food perfectly.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef round steak
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • For the gravy:
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Tenderize the beef round steak with a meat mallet. Cut into smaller pieces if needed.
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
  4. Dip each piece of steak first into the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  5. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  6. Fry the coated steaks for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. For the gravy, use the same skillet, add more oil if needed, then whisk in the flour, cooking for 1 minute before adding milk gradually, stirring until thickened.
  9. Season with salt and pepper.
  10. Serve the country fried steak with the creamy gravy.

Notes

Allow the dredged steak to sit for a few minutes before frying for better coating adherence.
