Ingredients
- 1 lb beef round steak
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- Vegetable oil for frying
- For the gravy:
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 cups milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Tenderize the beef round steak with a meat mallet. Cut into smaller pieces if needed.
- In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
- Dip each piece of steak first into the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
- In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Fry the coated steaks for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- For the gravy, use the same skillet, add more oil if needed, then whisk in the flour, cooking for 1 minute before adding milk gradually, stirring until thickened.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve the country fried steak with the creamy gravy.
Notes
Allow the dredged steak to sit for a few minutes before frying for better coating adherence.
