Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
- 1 pound ground beef (450 g)
- 2 teaspoons sea salt (10 g)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (1 g)
- 5 cups (1200 ml) marinara sauce
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
- 1/2 medium onion, diced
- 1 Tablespoon (15 ml) minced garlic, approximately 2-3 cloves
- 2 Tablespoons (30 ml) Italian seasoning
- 32 ounces whole milk ricotta cheese (907 g)
- 3/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese (75 g)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (3 g)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (0.5 g)
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (300 g)
- 3/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese (75 g)
- 9 oven-ready lasagna noodles, or homemade pasta sheets
Instructions
- Set your oven to 375°F and warm up a large skillet or pot on medium heat.
- Pour in some olive oil and add the ground beef. Season with salt and pepper. Cook while stirring occasionally and breaking it apart until it turns brown.
- Mix in the marinara sauce, lower the heat, and let it simmer for 10 minutes while you prepare the filling.
- On the stovetop, heat a medium skillet over medium heat. Cook the diced onions in oil for 3-5 minutes until they become soft.
- Add the minced garlic and Italian seasoning, sauté for another minute, then transfer everything to a big bowl.
- Combine the ricotta cheese, shredded Parmesan, eggs, salt, and pepper in the bowl and blend well.
- In a separate small bowl, combine the Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses.
- In a deep casserole or lasagna dish, spread about 1 cup of the meat sauce evenly across the bottom.
- Lay three lasagna noodles on top of the sauce and cover with one-third of the ricotta mixture. Spread it to cover most of the noodles. Add one-third of the shredded cheese mixture on top, followed by half of the remaining meat sauce.
- Repeat the layering process with three more noodles, the second third of the ricotta mixture, the second third of the shredded cheese, and the rest of the meat sauce.
- For the final layer, place the last three noodles, the remaining third of the ricotta mixture, and the last third of the shredded cheese.
- Seal the pan with foil and position it on the middle rack in the oven. Bake for 50 minutes. Take off the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes to brown the cheese. (Use the broiler for a few minutes for extra crispy edges!)
- Take out the lasagna and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before cutting and serving.
Notes
- Season ground beef generously with salt and pepper to enhance the meat sauce’s flavor.
- Choose a high-quality marinara sauce to create a flavorful base for the lasagna.
- Allow the lasagna to rest before serving to let the flavors blend and make slicing easier.
