Description

A delightful twist on traditional focaccia, this chocolate focaccia combines rich cocoa flavor with a soft, slightly crispy texture, making it perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Chocolate chips (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, olive oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Punch down the dough, then shape it into a rectangle.
  8. Transfer the dough to a greased baking sheet and use your fingers to make dimples all over the surface.
  9. If using, sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
  10. Let the dough rest for another 20 minutes, then bake for 20-25 minutes or until the bread is firm and a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or allow to cool and slice into squares. Pairs well with spreads like cream cheese or chocolate ganache.
