A delightful twist on traditional focaccia, this chocolate focaccia combines rich cocoa flavor with a soft, slightly crispy texture, making it perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm water
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Chocolate chips (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add the yeast mixture, olive oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the dough, then shape it into a rectangle.
- Transfer the dough to a greased baking sheet and use your fingers to make dimples all over the surface.
- If using, sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
- Let the dough rest for another 20 minutes, then bake for 20-25 minutes or until the bread is firm and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Serve warm or allow to cool and slice into squares. Pairs well with spreads like cream cheese or chocolate ganache.
