Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups (355 ml) converted long-grain white rice
- 3 cups (710 ml) water
- 1 pound (454 g) ground beef
- 2 cups (470 ml) water
- 1 (20 ounce (567 g)) jar pasta sauce
- 1 (10 ounce (283 g)) can tomato soup
- 3 1/2 pounds (1.59 kg) cabbage, cut into bite-size pieces
- 1 onion, chopped
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 1 dash hot pepper sauce
Instructions
- Ensure you have all the necessary ingredients on hand.
- In a pot, bring the converted rice and 3 cups of water to a rolling boil. Once boiling, lower the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and let it cook until the rice is soft and the water is fully absorbed, approximately 20 to 25 minutes.
- Place a large soup pot on medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, cooking and stirring until it turns brown and becomes crumbly, which should take about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove and discard any excess fat.
- Combine 2 cups of water, the cooked rice, pasta sauce, tomato soup, cabbage, onion, salt, black pepper, and a dash of hot pepper sauce with the beef in the pot. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and cover the pot.
- Allow it to simmer, stirring every so often, until the cabbage becomes soft and tender, around 20 to 30 minutes.
Notes
- Consider using lean ground beef or turkey to lower the fat content for a healthier option.
- Customize by adding your favorite vegetables like bell peppers or carrots.
- Adjust seasoning to taste with more or less salt, pepper, or hot pepper sauce.
