Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (355 ml) converted long-grain white rice
  • 3 cups (710 ml) water
  • 1 pound (454 g) ground beef
  • 2 cups (470 ml) water
  • 1 (20 ounce (567 g)) jar pasta sauce
  • 1 (10 ounce (283 g)) can tomato soup
  • 3 1/2 pounds (1.59 kg) cabbage, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 dash hot pepper sauce

Instructions

  1. Ensure you have all the necessary ingredients on hand.
  2. In a pot, bring the converted rice and 3 cups of water to a rolling boil. Once boiling, lower the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and let it cook until the rice is soft and the water is fully absorbed, approximately 20 to 25 minutes.
  3. Place a large soup pot on medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, cooking and stirring until it turns brown and becomes crumbly, which should take about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove and discard any excess fat.
  4. Combine 2 cups of water, the cooked rice, pasta sauce, tomato soup, cabbage, onion, salt, black pepper, and a dash of hot pepper sauce with the beef in the pot. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and cover the pot.
  5. Allow it to simmer, stirring every so often, until the cabbage becomes soft and tender, around 20 to 30 minutes.

Notes

  • Consider using lean ground beef or turkey to lower the fat content for a healthier option.
  • Customize by adding your favorite vegetables like bell peppers or carrots.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste with more or less salt, pepper, or hot pepper sauce.
