Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or your favorite)
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (3-5 minutes).
- Add vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips and nuts if using.
- Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
- Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets, leaving 2 inches between each cookie.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and centers are slightly soft.
- Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
For chewier cookies, remove them from the oven while still slightly underbaked. Add a pinch of sea salt on top for enhanced flavor.
