Description

A warm, delectable treat that combines ripe bananas with rich semisweet chocolate chips for a comforting indulgence.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed bananas (about 3 medium bananas)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup large semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup walnuts (chopped – optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9-by-5-inch loaf pan with nonstick baking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sea salt until well combined.
  3. In a large bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Stir in the melted butter, canola oil, vanilla extract, and the egg until fully combined.
  4. Gradually whisk in the brown sugar until the mixture is smooth.
  5. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture gently using a spatula, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Gently stir in 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips and walnuts, if using.
  7. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips on top.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes, testing with a toothpick at the 50-minute mark. Once baked, let cool in the pan for 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For maximum sweetness and moisture, use overripe bananas. Store in an airtight container for up to three days or freeze for longer storage.
