A nostalgic chocolate banana bread recipe that combines the rich flavors of cocoa and ripe bananas for a delightful treat.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 1/2 cups mashed bananas (about 3 medium bananas)
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 1 cup light brown sugar (packed)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup large semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup walnuts (chopped – optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease your loaf pan and set aside for later use.
- In a medium bowl, blend the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sea salt. Whisk well or sift for a finer texture and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
- Mix the melted butter and canola oil into the mashed bananas. Stir in the vanilla extract and crack in the egg. Combine until smooth.
- Gradually add the light brown sugar, whisking until the mixture is smooth.
- Gently fold the dry mixture into the wet ingredients using a spatula, being careful not to overmix.
- Stir in 3/4 cup of chocolate chips and optional chopped walnuts.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, checking with a toothpick inserted into the center.
- Let the loaf cool in the pan for 15 minutes before slicing.
Notes
For best results, use ripe bananas and avoid overmixing. Consider adding spices like cinnamon for a twist.
