Description

A nostalgic chocolate banana bread recipe that combines the rich flavors of cocoa and ripe bananas for a delightful treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed bananas (about 3 medium bananas)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup large semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup walnuts (chopped – optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease your loaf pan and set aside for later use.
  2. In a medium bowl, blend the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sea salt. Whisk well or sift for a finer texture and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
  4. Mix the melted butter and canola oil into the mashed bananas. Stir in the vanilla extract and crack in the egg. Combine until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the light brown sugar, whisking until the mixture is smooth.
  6. Gently fold the dry mixture into the wet ingredients using a spatula, being careful not to overmix.
  7. Stir in 3/4 cup of chocolate chips and optional chopped walnuts.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.
  9. Bake for 50-60 minutes, checking with a toothpick inserted into the center.
  10. Let the loaf cool in the pan for 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For best results, use ripe bananas and avoid overmixing. Consider adding spices like cinnamon for a twist.
