Ingredients

  • – 12 ounces (340 g) egg noodles, uncooked
  • – 2 teaspoons (10 ml) olive oil
  • – 1 1/4 lbs (567 g) lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • – 1 onion, finely chopped
  • – 2 teaspoons (10 ml) minced garlic
  • – salt and pepper to taste
  • – 16 ounces (454 g) canned tomato sauce
  • – 15 ounces (425 g) can diced tomatoes, drained, I prefer to use the small diced (petite cut) variety
  • – 2 teaspoons (10 ml) Italian seasoning
  • – 2 cups (200 g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • – 2 tablespoons (30 ml) chopped parsley
  • – cooking spray


Instructions

  1. Start by bringing a pot of salted water to a boil, then add the egg noodles and cook them as directed on the package. Set your oven to preheat at 400 degrees F.
  2. As the noodles are cooking, warm up the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Place the ground beef into the skillet and cook it for 4-5 minutes, using a spatula to break the meat into small pieces.
  4. Include the chopped onion and minced garlic in the skillet, cooking for another 5 minutes until the onion is soft and the beef is fully cooked. Add salt and pepper to your liking.
  5. Mix in the tomato sauce, drained diced tomatoes, and Italian seasoning with the beef, stirring well to blend everything.
  6. After draining the noodles, add them to the skillet with the beef mixture and toss everything together.
  7. Transfer the beef and noodle blend into a 9″x13″ baking dish that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Scatter the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  8. Bake the dish for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is fully melted. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Consider using whole wheat egg noodles for added fiber and nutrients.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce for a spicy kick.
  • Experiment with mozzarella or pepper jack cheese for a unique flavor twist.
